The art of recovery - David
WA Artist David Giles says he ‘came out’ about his mental illness in 2005 as a community service.
“I wanted to show that people with mental health issues can still be happy and successful.”
He says that spells in and out of psychiatric hospitals, followed by a life of quiet desperation before he got appropriate help, have given him the foundation for his paintings. He exhibits worldwide but David gave the Mental Health Commission permission to use his stunning work because he believes passionately in mental health reform.
David has two studios - in Fremantle and Heathcote in Applecross – or visit www.davidgilesartist.com.au
