WA Song of the Year Competition

"Creating a mentally healthy community"

Music is often used as a channel to express and enhance moods and emotional states. It is one of the quickest activities to change a person’s mood from sad to happy. Listening to and playing music can improve your self esteem, outlook on life and connection with others.

The Mental Health Commission is proud to sponsor and support the WAM Song of the Year Competition to raise awareness of the benefits of music for mental wellbeing.

In 2011 Folk popster Timothy Nelson was awarded the WAM Song of the Year Grand Prize for his song, Speak the Truth in Love, at the annual WAM Song of the Year Awards Night on 12 October 2011 at the Fly By Night Club in Fremantle.
